This consultation sets out the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero’s (DESNZ) intention to develop a cap and floor mechanism to overcome the investment barriers they have identified for long duration energy storage (LDES) technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Solar Energy UK welcomes the a cap and floor mechanism, which we feel is the best way to unlock investment in LDES and speed up its much needed deployment. However, our response urged a technology agnostic approach be considered so as not to unfairly exclude any existing (such as lithium based storage) or future technologies that could enable the lowest costs to consumers and earliest possible delivery of LDES assets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
