How storage works

Solar By Day, Battery By Night.

During the day your array serves the load first, then charges the battery, and only then exports any surplus. When the sun sets or the grid fails, the inverter draws from storage to keep selected circuits alive.

That sequencing is why hybrid systems need a design decision up front: which loads are essential. Lights, fans, Wi-Fi, a refrigerator, security or medical equipment are inexpensive to back up. Air-conditioning and pumps change the arithmetic sharply.

Batteries add capital cost and have a finite cycle life, so they rarely shorten payback on their own. What they deliver is continuity — and that is a genuine benefit worth paying for deliberately.
