Start with twelve months of electricity bills. Seasonal variation matters more than a single month, and your highest-tariff slabs are where solar offsets the most value.
Next, assess the roof: available shade-free area, orientation, structure type and whether you want to keep using the terrace. This determines mounting design and cost.
Then compare proposals on assumptions, not just price. Ask what specific yield (kWh per kW per year) each vendor assumed, what losses they applied and what warranty terms apply to modules, inverter and workmanship.
Finally, plan the paperwork: DISCOM application, net-metering approval, inspection and meter change. A competent vendor handles this with you rather than leaving it to you.
